Launched as Motor Underwriting Agency in 1988, MUA (as we are known today) has always specialised in tailoring solutions for the high net worth personal lines motor market.

 

Since 2006, this offering has been expanded to also include a similar bespoke focus on home insurance, thereby including homeowners, householders and personal all risks with related liability business. This decision cemented our foothold in the market, and provided for a more diversified offering.

 

With our reputation as the first specialist underwriting agency for the motor insurance market in South Africa, MUA has grown into becoming a preferred insurance partner to a select market because of our flexibility and comprehensive coverage to a market that demands a tailored solution. Since the change in ownership of MUA in December 2008 (with MUA becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Lireas Holdings), the company has transformed rapidly daring an economically stagnant period.

 

Our business model was redefined from an independent licensed insurer to become an underwriting manager for Compass Insurance Company (MUA represents approximately 20% of the Compass portfolio). This transition was carefully managed and well explained to all key stakeholders in order to take them along on this journey.
