The information contained in our email appears to have been ambiguous. Please note that Windscreen Direct, The Glass Lab and The Glass Group offer an excess waiver on non-branded windscreens only. Therefore, only when electing to have the alternative windscreen glass (not vehicle manufacturer or the “Shatterprufe” trademark brand) fitted, would the excess be waived.

We thank you for your continued support and value all feedback.

Chauffeuring services

We have seen a massive increase in the use of chauffeuring services i.e. Goodfellas being used by our clients nationally. We applaud the pro-active risk management taken and have updated our cover accordingly. In future, driver restrictions relating to the age of the driver will be waived where our insured is making use of a chauffeuring service. Please encourage your clients to take up these services and let’s work together at reducing drunk driving on SA Roads.

Reporting claims to the SAPS

It has recently come to our attention that clients are expected to pay a R1000 fine to the SAPS if the crime is reported more than 24 hours after it occurred. We suggest our brokers bring this to clients’ attention as this matter has caused some great anxiety with our clients at the time of a loss.
Cover for items stolen out of vehicles where there are no signs of break-in.

Recently, the number of claims where items are stolen out of unattended vehicles, with no signs of break-in have increased dramatically. It is believed that the use of remote control units to interrupt the locking signal of vehicles are to blame for this trend. In the spirit of treating our customers fairly, we have decided to grant cover for these claims up to a limit of R5000 and subject to R1000 excess. Prior to this change, there was no cover for this type of claim.

Car Hire – Now available with an extended car hire option: 45 days

We would like to remind all our brokers that we have various Car Hire Options available to our clients. It is very important to get this right, as clients are still unimpressed when they get to claim’s stage and are presented with a model vehicle inferior to their liking.

Please note our 30 day car hire options below:
· 30 day car hire Standard - R40.00
· 30 day car hire Automatic - R60.00
· 30 day car hire Upgrade - R80.00

After numerous requests from our broker market, and in keeping with our approach to provide you with flexible solutions, MUA will be rolling out an extended 45 days car hire option at the following rates:
· 45 day car hire Standard - R60.00
· 45 day car hire Automatic - R80.00
· 45 day car hire Upgrade - R120.00

This option will be made available immediately as an optional extension to the policy cover.

Do not hesitate to contact your regional office manager of office for further information.

Full Windscreen cover

We have recently done away with the R30 000 limitation on windscreen claims. In addition, we have introduced an option for clients to have their windscreens replaced by an imported SABS approved alternative, in which case there will be no excess applicable. We wish to advise our brokers to discuss this option with their clients, as the standard windscreen replacement option carries a percentage based excess which can be very expensive.

The latest product updates include information about Window Glass limit, Agreed Value and Jewellery.

We have the following product updates to share with you:

Window Glass Limit
Please note that MUA has changed the limit applicable to window glass on motor and classic motor policies. As a result, there is no longer a limit of R30 000 and the option to increase the cover for window glass has been removed.
  • Cover for window glass is now up to the vehicle sum insured.
  • The window glass excess still applies on each valid claim.

Agreed Value:
Cover for the Classic Motor policy is based on an agreed value which means the value of the vehicle is agreed between the policyholder and the insurer before inception of the risk or at renewal stage of the policy. Therefore at inception or renewal MUA requires the following:
  • Before accepting a classic vehicle on an agreed value, the insured must provide a written valuation from either a Classic Car Club or a dealership showing the mileage and condition. If possible digital photographs should also be attached.
  • At renewal stage, the insured will be requested to provide an updated valuation showing the recent mileage and any change in value or condition.
  • If these requirements are not met, a Classic Vehicle will automatically be covered for reasonable retail value and not at agreed value.

Jewellery:
Please note that MUA has changed the limits that apply to jewellery and make sure you take note of the following changes:
  • A claim for loss or damage to any watch or article of jewellery will be capped at no more than R20 000 for each item or pair, unless the insured provides a professional valuation for the by an independent jeweller dated less than 5 years before the loss or damage occurs.
  • All items worth more than R50 000 each must be locked in a safe that is fixed to the building when the property is left unoccupied, or when the person covered by the policy is not actually wearing or carrying the items. If they are lost or stolen whilst not secured under the circumstances described above, any claim will be limited to R50 000.
