One minute with Ronelle Taylor
Tell us about you...
I am a mother of two young adult boys, and we are a very close family. I chose the insurance industry when I left school, so it has been a lifetime’s work so far. I have been with MUA for almost 12 years, so I consider this company to be my second family.
What has been a standout feature at MUA so far?
As much as I had some big goals, I never thought I would grow to the point where I manage talented people and help them to excel as I do today. I am proud of completing a management development course at the Stellenbosch University Business School. I am also an IIWC honorary member.
What character traits set you apart?
I value how we are all very different. I believe firmly that we should treat people accordingly. I believe I am loyal, responsible, compassionate, fair and hard working.
What do people generally not know about you?
I do not like cooking. There, I said it!
What was the first song you developed an obsession for?
Any music from Queen, U2, Madonna and Modern Talking in my teenage years.
What’s the first gig you went to?
In the small town I grew up in, there were only ‘garage parties’. But seeing UB40 at Green Point Stadium around 1991 was a highlight.
What’s the best piece of ‘life advice’ you’ve ever been given?
It does not matter how challenging your circumstances may be, just never lose hope. Also, treat other people the way you want to be treated.
What’s your favourite down-time activity?
I love the ocean. To walk on the beach is the ultimate stress-reliever.
What inspirations outside of work impact your life?
People who are strong and persevere no matter what the circumstances. They inspire me.
What makes you laugh?
I have a very funny friend. If I am around her I laugh most of the time. I sometimes laugh at myself if I make stupid mistakes. The latest comedy I really enjoyed was Girls Trip.
What is it ‘you can’t stand’?
Sitting in traffic, standing in queues and aggressive drivers. Oh, and people who are late.
What can we expect from you in 2018?
I aim to continue my contribution towards the success of my team and this company to the best of my abilities.
